The Wurzels are an English band from Somerset, renowned for their distinctive “Scrumpy and Western” style—a playful blend of folk and comedy celebrating West Country life. Formed in 1966 as the backing group for singer-songwriter Adge Cutler, they gained regional popularity with songs about cider-making, farming, and local culture. Following Cutler’s untimely death in 1974, the band continued and achieved national fame with their 1976 chart-topping hit “The Combine Harvester,” a parody of Melanie’s “Brand New Key,” and the Top 3 single “I Am a Cider Drinker,” a reimagined version of “Paloma Blanca.” Over the decades, The Wurzels have maintained a dedicated fan base, performing extensively across the UK and releasing numerous albums that capture the rustic charm and humor of rural England.
